India’s two new beaches are given the blue flag tag that are Minicoy Thundi Beach and Kadmat Beach, both are in Lakshadweep island. Including these two now India has a total of 12 beaches which are awarded the blue tag for the cleaness and eco-label given the Foundation for Environment Education in Denmark.
Blue Flag tag is given to the beaches around the world, for an eco-label and blue flag beaches should provide clean and hygienic bathing water, along with basic infrastructure for tourists. Blue flag tag is the pride for the countries as it denotes the environment awareness for keeping the beaches clean. This attracts the tourists to visit these beaches, which can bring economic benifit to these countries.
Who give the Blue Flag tag to Beaches
The Blue Flag Tag or certification is given by a non-profit organization called the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) of Denmark. The organization awarded the eco-label for the clean and hygienic water of the beach along with basic infrastructure for the tourists. It is awarded to beaches, marinas and sustainable boat tourism operators that meet the set requirements. They should fulfill all the 33 criteria as mandated by the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE).
The mission of Blue Flag is to promote sustainability in the tourism sector, through environmental education, environmental protection and other sustainable development practices.
Recent blue flag beaches in India 2022
Recently two new beaches were given the blue flag tag by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in Denmark. The two beaches are Minicoy Thundi Beach and Kadmat Beach– both in Lakshadweep.

Including these two now India has a total of 12 beaches that are certified under the Blue flag certification. Which gives as an eco-label to the cleanest beaches in the world.

The Chandrabhaga beach on the Konark coast of Odisha has become Asia’s first beach to get the Blue Flag certification, the tag given to environment-friendly and clean beaches, equipped with amenities of international standards for tourists.
Spain has the highest number of blue flag beaches that are certified by the Foundation for Environmental Education. There are more than 4000 beaches in Spain with blue flag tags.
