Patna, Hajipur, Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Kannauj, Rishikes, Haridwar, Mirzapur, Farrukhabad are the most important cities located on the bank of river Ganga. Ganga river flows through the five India states Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand. Devprayag, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Garhmuketeshwar, Allahabad and Varanasi are some of the holy places on its banks which attract people from all over the country and abroad.
The cities of Baghpat, New Delhi, Noida, Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Kalpi, Hamirpur, and Prayagraj lie on its banks. At Etawah, it meets another important tributary, Chambal, followed by a host of tributaries further down, including Sindh, the Betwa, and Ken.
Tiruchirapalli and Erode are the most important cities of Tamil Nadu situated on the bank of Kaveri river.
Ganga river flows through 27 districts covering 1,140km. The important districts that it drains are Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur, Chandauli, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Ghazipur, Varanasi and Ballia.
At Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh the Ganga confluence with Yamuna.
