Awards Given on May 2022

  • Cynthia Rosenzweig  received the World Food Prize 2022. She is a Scientist at NASA.
  • Charudutt Mishra was awarded with the Whitley award for working on the conservation of snow leopard, this award is also known as the green Oscar.
  • India will be the first official country of honour at Cannes Marché du film in France.
  • Mamta Banerjee was honoured with a special Bangla Academy Award for her book “Kabita Bitan”.
  • Ajay Piramal and Kishor Jairam receive the top British honorary award “Commander of the British empire’ by the Queen.
  • G J R Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi  have been awarded the Sangita Kalanidhi for the year 2021.
  • Tomb of Sand got the International Booker Prize. It is the first Hindi language book to get this award. It was written by Geetanjal Shree, and translated to English by Daisy Rockwell.
  • Indian documentary ”All that breathes” won the L’Oeil d’Or (Golden Eye) award at Cannes film festival, directed by Shaunak Sen.

Important Days of the May 2022

  • 1st of May is observed as World Labour Day. On the 1st of May Gujarat and Maharashtra also celebrate the Statehood day.
  • BRO (Border and Road Organisation) celebrated its raising day on the 7th of May. It was established in 1960. The present head of the BRO is Rajeev Chaudhary.
  • World Red Cross Day is observed on the 8th of May. The theme for the year 2022 is “Be human kind”. The day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of Red cross society.
  • National Technology Day is celebrated on 11 May. Theme for 2022 was “Integrated approaches in science and technology for a sustainable future”. It is observed that in 1998 India tested the 2nd  Nuclear test.
  • Sikkim celebrated its statehood day on 16th May. On 16 May 1975 Sikkim became the 22nd state of India. CM is Prem Singh Tamang and the Governor is Ganga Prasad.
  • Anti terrorism Day is observed in 21st May. It is the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
  • World Biodiversity Day is observed on 22nd of May every year. The theme for 2022 is “building a shared future for all life”.
  • No tobacco Day is celebrated on the 31st of May by WHO. The theme for this year is “Protect the environment”.
